Diskpart and MBR code RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our company deploy XPe via WinPE version 1.2 and 1.6 and imagex.  Our problem is when using Diskpart under WinPE with a brand new hard drive that has no MBR code writen on it.  XPe does not boot.  If we format and partition a brand new hard drive under Windows XP and Initialize the disk.  Initializing the disk writes the MBR code on the hard drive.

What are we doing wrong in WinPE?
Is this a known issue with diskpart, that it does not write the MBR code? Because I have read on a forum about this issue.

Does anyone have a solution to this issue? Thanks.

  • Hi, the Windows Vista Setup forum is for general Windows Vista OS only. Please do not post Windows XP questions in this thread. Make sure to choose the appropriate Windows Vista forum before submitting an inquiry. For your information, you'd better submit the thread to Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). Thanks for your understanding!

Or at least use WinPE 2.0 (Vista based WinPE)
