Word 2007, table of content : modify TOC numbering layout RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

It's easy to create a TOC based on heading styles, but numbering is not effective. As I've understood they are not defined by TOC styles.

How can I modify them ? For instance, roman letters are used for Heading 1 level, I, II, III, IV etc and arab numbers for level 2 : 1, 2, 3 etc.

I would like arab numbers for all levels, with reference to higher level : 1, 1.1, 1.2, 2, 2.1 etc.

How can I do that ?

    Thanks,

    Olivier

  • Hi Olivier,

What do you mean by "but numbering is not effective"? Heading Style numbers are defined at the Heading level - not at the TOC level. You can't really have a different heading numbering format in the TOC from that which is applied to the referenced headings.
