RunDLL error - problem starting fdprint RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a customer with printing problems.  When they open a printer and then double click on "See what's printing", the get a RunDLL error that says "There was a problem starting fdprint.  The specified module coudl not be found."

I have uninstalled the printer and drivers, downloaded the lastest drivers from the manufacturer, and I still get the issue.  Has anyone else encountered this?

    Computer:  Fujitsu T4310, Win 7 64-bit

Printers:  Lexmark x4530 and a HP Photosmart Premium C309

I have searched for this fdprint issue, but have found nothing.

  • Take ownership of the file first, give you full permissions and replace the DLL now.

  • the fdprint .dll is part of Windows 7.

Please start the command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights [1] and run sfc [2]:

    sfc.exe /scannow

Is it able to find and repair broken files? If not, extract the DLL with the file from your DVD [3] and copy the DLL to your system32 folder.

  • I have  fujitsu T900, Windows7 64bit

I'm using the Devices & Printers to select one of three printers
    HP Color Laserjet 2020
    HP OfficeJet Pro L7600
    HP Laserjet 2200

When I open a printer and then double click on "See what's printing", the get a RunDLL error that says "There was a problem starting fdprint.  The specified module coudl not be found."

I used SFC.exe/verifyonly and the scan passed without any errors

I also ran an MD5 on the fdprint.dll file and it checked ok

Must be some linked file that is corrupt. Any ideas?

  • have you tried to extract the DLL from your Windows DVD?

  • I haven't tried extracting but as I indicated I ran an MD% checksum on the file and it matched the MD5 checksum on http://www.faultwire.com/file_detail/fdprint.dll*64865.html. I assume my dll is OK

I'm using the default MS drivers for the printers and this may be the issue

  • I removed the windows printer driver and installed the latest HP Universal driver for our CP2025dn. However I still have the same problem. I checkout all the related DLLs per http://www.win7dll.info/fdprint_dll.html . They all pass the SFC check but two have a newer date ole32.dll and shell32.dll.

Yes, I tried to copy the fdprint.dll to System32, but I wasnt allowed to.
System told me, that Trusted Installer Auhorization is necessary to do that.

Although it didnt ask for Adminstrator Rights.

  • Andre, your answer was very helpful.  However I do not have a DVD from which I can extract the DLL because my fujitsu did not come with one.  The fujitsu people don't know what to do about it.  is there a place I can download the missing DLL online?

  • We ran into this same issue with the Fujitsu T730 with Win 7 64-bit and found that it was caused by the Fujitsu Button Util software.  Remove that and the problem goes away.

  • Uninstalling the Fujitsu Button Utility got rid of the runDLL error fdprint issue,  but then the buttons on my tablet did not work, so I re-installed the latest version of the Fujitsu Button Utility and the problem returned.  What is the next step if I want to be able to use the buttons but not have the runDLL dfprint issue? (I have a T900 Win 7 64-bit and an HP LaserJet 2200D. It will no longer print multiple copies of a document.  that is how I noticed this problem.)
