WSUS SQL and Windows Updates... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

We have received complaints from our offices over in Europe regarding very slow responses on a few servers namely SQL and Print Server. When we took a closer look we saw that CPU was maxing out at 100%. Further investigation revealed that svchost.exe was the culprit and it seemed that WSUS was one of the processes taking up the CPU. When we stopped the WSUS service CPU usage dropped dramatically.

The server actually states that it needs updates but it does not appear to be downloading anything. Why would WSUS hog all the CPU Usage if it is not carrying out any updates processing?

BTW - we have not rebooted the server after the latest updates which were back in September.

Any help in troubleshooting this would be great.

    Regards.
