Outlook creating blank emails under Drafts folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • Strange behavior I've seen at my new company as their IT director. I was told this behavior has always been in existence so its not possible for me to determine what has triggered it.

    Steps:

Outlook 2010 - Create a new email. Don't input a name or subject or body. Just close the email as if you changed your mind about creating it. Immediately what happens is a blank email appears in the Drafts folder marked as unread and the Sent is labeled as None, the To and the Cc are empty. So the unread count increases each time I do it.

I tried this on my laptop Outlook although it 2013 and is not using the Exchange on premise server. When I do the above steps it does not create a blank email, which is the behavior I would expect.

Any ideas on how to stop this are appreciated.

  • That doesn't appear to work either. I've unchecked the box and still get the same behavior.

    Hi berlan,

I tried to test in my Outlook 2010 but cannot reproduce the issue described in your original post.

Have you checked if the problem remains in safe mode (Press Win + R, type "outlook /safe", press Enter.)?

    Regards,

  • Yes. The issue does not appear to be occurring in safe mode. So I will have to disable each add-on one by one to see which is the culprit. The determine from there what to do.

  • Found the problem add-in from the list of about 14.  For now I will disable since I don't really need it. Thanks for the insight.
