Dell PowerVault LTO4-EH1 not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • As a proof of concept, we are trying to get the above tape drive to work with the DPM 2012 R2. Drive is recognised by the OS (Windows Server 2012 R2) and can also be seen in the DPM console.

Running a command 'DPMLibraryTest.exe /CERTIFY /LL shows me the following:

    Found 0 Tape Libraries
    Found 1 Standalone Drives
    ---------------- Standalone Drive Information -----------------
    Standalone DRIVE 0
              Device Name         : \\.\Tape0
              Device Serialnumber : 1H10
Device Vendor Name  :   SCSI Disk Device
              Device Product Name : LTO
              FirmWare Revision     :
              Device SCSI Props   : (P,B,T,L)3,0,1,0

---------------- End of Standalone Drive Information ----------

    Operation completed successfully....

It is when I try and backup to a tape, it throws me an error

The back up to tape job failed for the following reason: (ID 3311)

and if I click on View Detailed Errors:

The operation failed because of a protection agent failure. (ID 998 Details: The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error (0x800701E3))

    Retry the operation.

Any ideas as to how to resolve this?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi,

You did not actually run any tests against the standalone tape drive, you just listed it with the LL command.

Make sure you have a writable tape in the tape drive, then run the following to run all tests.

    DPMLibraryTest.exe /CERTIFY /TL \\.\Tape0 /SA
