  • You likely need to come to an answer for all these questions to solve this issue:

    • What's a .ged file?  I don't believe that's ever been a file type Windows itself processes.
    • What application did you have on Windows 98 that created it, and is there a version that will run on Windows 7?
    • If there is a version for Windows 7, is it capable of opening a file that's from a very old version of software?  File formats change, though they may use the same extension.

There are sites on the net that can help you determine what application it was that you had to open files of particular extensions, but beware because many try to get you to run registry cleaners and other such snake oil.  Avoid doing that.

    Best of luck.
