High available Virtual machines are getting disconnected and shutdown frequently RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a 8 node Hyperv cluster on 2008 R2 Datacenter, almost 70 machines running on it. Recently we are facing issues with frequent disconnection of VMs, and VM going to shutdown or saved state. On checking it was found that there was some network flapping and the cluster network and cluster name is going offline, also a regular break on the ping response. My question is: Can the network break of the cluster name or IP address resources or if the cluster is offline, will pose this behavior for VMs.

    Any response will be helpful

  • Do these VM are running as cluster resources ? if yes then flapping in network VM might be a serious reason for failure of migrate to different host or it may be possible that you have CD mounted or some resource mounted stopping it from failover .

try running this VM on non cluster host or remove VM from cluster resource and check .
