Can I convert Sharepoint 2010 trial into full version as I now have a product key for it? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed Sharepoint 2010 trial version while we were waiting for our Visual Studio 2010 with MSDN subscription ... And now that I have got my product key that came with MSDN subscription, is there anyway to convert Sharepoint 2010 trial version into full version by somehow applying my product key? Please help.

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

I think you have upgraded from a trial version of SharePoint server 2010 to a full product edition.

Please go to Central Administration>Upgrade and Migration>Convert License Type> check the current license under Current License. My version number is also 14.0.4763.1000, my current license is SharePoint Server with Enterprise Client Access License.

    Hope it helps.

  • Thanks for your reply Todd. I have tried that but the product key field is disabled so that I could not enter in my product key.

Could it be because my Sharepoint installation was standalone rather than a farm?

    Cheers,

  • To convert a license type, you must be a member of the Farm Administrators SharePoint group on the computer that is running Central Administration.  Hope you are the one.

  • Hi KSDN,

I believe I am a member of Farm Administrators.

When I go to: Central Administration > Site Settings > People and Groups - Farm Administrators

    my account is listed there.

Any thought? Can I confirm it another way?

  • Hope your current version is a "Trial Version" and not "Beta".  Can you post the Build Number for confirmation.

Using SharePoint 2010 Central Administration Web site, under Upgrade and Migration, click Check product and patch installation status to show version numbers.

  • Hi,

are there any new informations regarding this topic.

We got the same problem as the thread opener. Installed a trial version of SPS 2010 (no beta). No we want to enter the product key, but the field is disabled.
The field were we would expect "Current license" is emtpy (may be normal for trial, don't know).

We tryed different account for Central Administration, all in Farm Administrator Group of Sharepoint. No Chance.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any information.

    Best Regards

I had installed the trial version of Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise earlier this month. I have recieved the product key now. The trial is still valid for now but when i try to convert the the license type from trial to enterprise , it fails.

In the license conversion page in CA, I could not find any version number, but my current license is displayed as : SharePoint Server Trial with Enterprise Client Access License

Iam able to key in the product key, but i get the following error during the conversion process. i was able to extract the details from the log file. Please help!

  • I have the same problem but with Std Ed but cannot enter the key. If I click Enterprise, I can enter a key, but my key is Std Ed and fails of course. I have a 3-server farm -- all Win2008R2 with all patches and updates, installed Sequel Server 2008 R2 (Licensed) on the DB server. I installed SP 2010 Std Ed on the WFE and my App server (where I installed CA). JUst received my product key. Cannot enter the product key. I am a Farm Admin.
