Hidden Users on Loggin screen. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings.

I've looked through other related topics but I couldn't compare em to what I need to know.

I have been wondering if it is possible to "hide" an account in windows 7 loggin screen, so I have to press the change user/account button

thats below the login screen icons. Or if I can setup a standard account that automaticly loggs in each time. So I have to logg out before I can then logg in on the administrator account

  • Yes, you can hide accounts from the Welcome Screen, and the procedure is the same as in Windows XP: http://www.petri.co.il/hide_a_user_from_the_welcome_screen_in_windows_xp.htm

Be very careful when you hide any administrative account, you could lock yourself out and be unable to log in.

Regarding automatic logon, read this article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/make-windows-vista-log-on-automatically/

  • Daniel,

I have been trying to do a similar thing.  However, when I follow the recommended procedure using SpecialAccounts --> UserList to hide the account from the logon, there is an unintended consequence.  The account I want to hide is gone but it seems that it no longer is an account that can provide admin approval for things like software installs.

How do you hide an account from the logon screen and keep it active and interacting with UAC.

    Thanks!
