Bulk Update Project Sites (PS2010) Not Working RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey folks, I've a problem where I click on an Issue of a Project, and I get the dreaded "File Not Found" SP/PS error.  Per documentation, running the Bulk Update Project Sites tool should resolve the problem for those project sites.  Unfortunately, a number of sites that have Issues still show this problem.

Of interest is that prior to this problem, an AAM change was done, for example, www.my-domain.com to www.mydomain.com.  The errors related to the above are due to the Issue still looking for the www.my-domain.com/pwa site, which no longer exists.

It looks like an AAM change also caused this issue...but I'm not 100% sure.

Has anyone seen behavior like this?

Can information be changed directly in the databases to facilitate the new URL?  If so, which URL?

    Thanks folks, much appreciated.

  • This is stored in the content DB - don't try to change it though!

If you have a test site with the same issue it might be worth editing the site address to remove the URL (make a note of the URL), click OK then edit the site address again to add the URL back then click OK.

  • Nothing should be changed in the DB directly. Can you open up PWA, navigate to the Server Settings page and click Project Sites under the operational policies heading. Select one of these sites that has the issue then click the Edit Site Address button. Is the correct URL there? If not, modify it if the correct URL / web app is there.

  • Hey Paul, yeah, I did that.  In the Project Sites page, the correct URL shows.  However, when clicking one of the Issues in that site, I get that "File not found" error, stating that it can't find the old URL.  Looking up the corresponding Project in MSP_EpmProject in the Reporting DB, the ProjectWorkspaceInternalHRef corresponds to the correct one displayed in the Project Sites page.  So I'm at a loss where it's still getting the old URL.

Is the URL used to surface the Project Issue kept in a different table?  Is this a cache thing?

    Thanks - M

  • No worries, SP DBs are off-limits.

Just so I understand, we're looking to go into the Project Sites page, find the relevant site, delete the URL, click OK/save it, then go back in, add it back in, OK/save, and then see if that pushes down the change.  Correct?

    Thanks!

  • Correct, check the Remove URL option, click OK, go back to the site and add the URL back in. Do this on a test site with the issue to see if this works before an important site!

  • The Remove/Add worked on a site in Dev.  However, the sites in Dev don't have this "File not found" issue.  But the site I played with in Dev was disconnected from its project site.  Clicking 'Project Site' in the ribbon on the details page resulted in a page stating that this Project didn't have a site.  Going back into Project Sites and re-adding the original URL back wired everything back up and it functioned accordingly.  I'm awaiting on a prospective Project in our Prod implementation to see if this works.

    Appreciate the assistance here Paul.

  • Doing this for one Project in the Prod environment seemed to resolve the "File not found" issue, however, removing the URL and then adding it back in removed links between Tasks and Issues/Risks/Documents.  So, we'll run a couple quick queries prior to doing the above, so that we have the relations.  That way when we do the remove/add, we can then re-link those.

Thanks again for your help in this...consider this resolved.
