  • Question

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly

  • Hi,

What is the make and model number of computer and the sound card?

Do you get any error code along with this error message?

Have you installed multiple sound devices on your computer?

    Please try these methods:

    Method 1:

You may try to run the Audio troubleshooter and check if that helps.

    a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

    b) Type audio troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

    c) Run the Playing Audio Troubleshooter.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to place the computer in clean boot to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.

    Method 3:

Check if any third party codecs are installed. If yes, then uninstall them and check if it makes any difference.

    Best Regards,

    Tao
