Change regedit key permissions RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm trying to change perms of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

I need to give the current user "Full Control Permission", how is that achievable?

I've tried set-acl.exe w/o success, sadly. Help please!

  • You can't.  The key is owned and managed by the system and Group Policy.  It is also protected to prevent just what you are trying todo. It used to be a prime target of malware in earlier versions of Windows.  You should never directly manipulate this key.

Why would you think you need to do this?  Use Group Policy to manage the impact of this key on users where possible.
