  • Hi guys,

Say you have a new 2012 server and have just installed ADDS and DNS services. In order to quickly setup DNS to get it to work, do I,

    1) Point the DNS server to it's own IP in the configuring adapter section

    2) Configure the DNS forwarders to point to my ISP DNS server

Are these 2 the most basic steps in order for my users to start surfing the web? Are there anything else I missed out DNS-related wise?

  • Hello,

If it was only to start surfing the web it was not necessary to install ADDS unless you will join your clients to the domain.

The other thing you need to do is to configure your DHCP server, if you have one, to give your DNS clients the IP address of the DNS server.

If you don't have any Firewall or Proxy to access Internet it is not mandatory to configure the DNS forwarders to point to your ISP (Your DNS server will use the root hints)

    Best Regards,
