Memory Upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a new Acer Aspire 1470 computer with 2x2gb DDR3 1333 memory modules (factory installed). Tiger Direct advised me that I could upgrade using 2x4 DDR3 memory modules 1600Mhz (everything else on the memory specs is the same as the factory installed 2x2 mem modules except the 1600Mhz speed). The computer reads 12gb memory as they said it would but am I getting the 1600Mhz speed or did the mb default the 1600Mhz mem modules to 1333Mhz (hope I'making sense here). One similar situation on the Tiger Direct 'reviews' section had one person increasing his bios speed to 1600. Can or should that be done and if it is how would that affect the two 1333Mhz mem modules?

  • Usually memory can only go as fast as the slowest stick. I wouldn't mess around with anything as I doubt you'd see any difference. If it's running good leave it alone.
