Use MDT 2013 in Azure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.

I want to know if there is a possibility to use MDT 2013 to deploy Windows 10 from Azure.

I think it doesn´t have to be problems if I create a VM in Azure with WDS and MDT 2013, although I have to consider many factors:

    • Network connection site to site
    • Adjust DHCP and IP Helpers
    • Ports in the VM and endopoints in Azure
    • ...

Does anyone can help me with this?

    Thanks in advance to everyone

  • Hi

You cannot PXE a VM in Azure. But I will work if you create a media deployment.

And you can only run a Windows 10 I Azure on a MSDN subscription.

    Kind regards

  • IT all depends on your topology.

For most IT Departments, It's not really practical to download Windows images over a VPN link in AZURE, it would be better if you could cache the content locally, or simply download the content over the public internet, putting the WIM File in a public blob. MDT already has hooks in it for multicast (WDSMCAST.exe) allowing it to download the big WIM files using a special program.

I have been thinking about some kind of distributed system where the master MDT server is in the cloud, but content is just replicated to remove MDT servers automatically, easy.
