Attempting SCCM 2012 installation - errors RRS feed

  • Question

  • Been trying to install SCCM 2012 with little success.  the issue we are experiencing during install is the following:

"cannot complie MOF file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\x64\smsprov.mof"

during our attempt we let installation continue, but the console would error out connecting to database.  The items listed that were possible problems were checked and found to be correct.  believe issue goes back to above message.  Any advice?

  • Appreciate all the advice.

opened a case with Microsoft.  We were able to determine that we could not even manually compile the mof.  What was discovered by Microsoft Support Engineer was that during the manually compiling the mof failed, there appears several instances, and WMI appeared to be the area to check next.

It was found that apparently the SMS NAMESPACE was still in the list of classes and wasn't removed when SCCM 2007 was uninstalled.

What we did next was delete the entry, and reattempted to manually compile the mof.  this time was success.  Earlier we had left the install at where the error took place.  Once the mof was compiled we then selected the continue option for the install to cointinue anyway.  From that point on all components completed without error.  We were able to verify through the console all functions appeared fine.

Thank you Microsoft, and especially Anurag Shukla for the assist.
