Server crash with DPM 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Twice this week i've had my Server 2008 R2 machine running SQL 2008 R2
crash approximately 9 minutes after this error shows up in the event
    viewer:

    Event ID 10005

DCOM got error "8" attempting to start the service DPMRA with
arguments "" in order to run the server:

    {DA6AA17A-D61C-4E9C-8CEA-DB25DEA52A95}

     DPM agent version is 3.0.7696.0

Symptoms: the server would continue to operate and the application it
runs would continue to operate (BMC Remedy).  The server would stop
spawning processes (BMC Remedy triggers perl.exe to run external
processes and they stop responding first).  If i try and log in to the
server via RDP it starts connecting, asks for Username & Password, and
then it goes back to connection prompt.  No error message.  It just
    backs out.

I end up rebooting the server in Hyper-V directly.

  • Has anybody else experienced this?

Brand new installs of Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 R2, and DPM 2010.  It has happened to me a total of 5 times now.

  • Is DPM 2010 database installed on the SQL 2008 R2?  This scenario is not yet supported, sorry about that

    Just my 2 cents

No, it's installed on the local DPM server.  I let it use the built in SQL installer it comes with.
