ReFS with deduplication (DPM on Windows Server 2019) supported? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

I read that Windows Server 2019 supports deduplication on ReFS. Actually, this was also supported in Windows Server 1709, but we didn't use this release.

Is it supported to deploy DPM 2016/18xx on Windows Server 2019, with MBS (Modern Backup Storage), using ReFS volumes with deduplication?

We would like to deploy DPM as a VM in Azure, so the option of deploying DPM as a VM and running deduplication on Hyper-V host will not work in this scenario.

    Kind regards

  • Unfortunately this is not supported. You need to enable deduplication on the volumes where DPM .vhdx files are stored (DPM storage pool .vhdx). That is why you cannot use deduplication with Azure DPM virtual machine.

Also DPM 2016 is currently not yet supported with Windows Server 2019.
