PWA resources DONOT sync! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We paid Essential license for 1,050 users.  Today our resources reaches 1,001 users.  I added resources and synced them to the PWA approx 6 resources doesn't show up in the PWA despite the sync indication is current.  As a result our scheduler can't assign task to the resources.

What went wrong and if anyone has this issue?  Please share.

  • Look at the resource profile and verify that resource can be assigned to a task,

  • Michale,

So we use security group to manage our resources and users.  This security group linked to an AD group LDAP group.  If I add "x" into this AD group, x will be synced and shown in the manage user list.  All of them have the same access (view (user) and action (resource) in their my task).  The issue I described above has been resolved and root cause came from sync delay.

However I have another question since you mentioned "resource profile".

Recently I have learned that there is a resource.aspx page and I can add new person to the resource list.  I have never used resource.aspx to add new comer as described we use security group pointed to LDAP AD group to give user action right.

I saw many users in the resources profile may I ask if these resources are the same ones as it shown in the manage user list and LDAP list?

I was just curious if we overpaid our license for Essential.  The reason being that in the Ldap group, not every one are resources, some of them just users (need to go to PWA or my task to see progress).

  • In the most simplest terms, license are only needed if resources log into PWA or Project Online or SharePoint sites that are created by project online or PWA.

Another way to look at this is thru permissions

Log on to Project Server from Project Professional - requires project professional client license
Log on permission - resource licenses

This is not an official view of Microsoft license, but this should be close.   Contact Microsoft for official answer.
