Controlling room AV devices with S4B Room Console

Question
-
Hi, I am using a Logitech SmartDock with Skype Room Systems console:
Secure meeting room console designed for Skype Room Systems
https://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/smartdock#specification-tabular
The room has existing video projector and motorised screen. How can I provide extra UI on the console to provide a "show on projector" function. This would need to be able to turn the projector on and operate the motorised screen.
Also, would want a way to switch the projector off and retract the screen.
I have an existing Crestron control system in the room, but the client wants to use the Logitech/Surface console to achieve the room control actions.
Note that there are meetings which don't require the projector / video conference, so it can't trigger directly from the Logitech motion sensor.
Information I've found so far includes:

How to: Create a Conversation Window Extension application in Lync SDK
- doesn't seem to apply to newer (skype for business/skype room systems)

UC Client Custom Menus
- not sure if this is available in room system version.
- is too deep in menus for end users to find.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/41432670/is-it-possible-to-develop-an-add-in-for-skype-for-business-formerly-ms-lync
Is it possible to develop an add-in for Skype for Business (formerly MS Lync)?
- no add-in capability exists.
- could use the Unified Communications Web API to create an alternate application - but not sure how this would fit with the Skype Room System application.
Is it possible currently / planned to allow additional UI elements (eg display on / display off)?
