MDT and WDS Discovery Images (Windows 10) RRS feed

  • Question

    • I want to use MDT to create 'gold' images using the deploy and capture for Windows 10. I will then take the wim file and put it into SCCM for mass deployment.

I have built a server (2016) and installed MDT, ADK and WDS. However due to PXE being configured to point to our SCCM Distribution Points in our environment I want to use a Discovery Image to force the virtual machine that I do the deploy and capture to, to point to my new MDT / WDS server.

When I try to use the LiteTouch boot files I get "The image cannot be used to create a discovery image because it does not contain the required WDS client binary files"

If I use the Windows 10 boot image following this guide (https://www.nyazit.com/create-discover-image-with-bootable-iso/) It then is looking for the images in WDS (which I haven't created any).

Does anyone know how to boot using a Discovery image to MDT or is there another way to get this process to work?

  • Are you using the Litetouch.wim file located: \\<servername>\<deploymentshare>\Boot

    ?

  • My mistake, I didn't realise that I could just take the LiteTouchPE.iso from \\server\DeploymentShare$\Boot and use that to boot and connect to the MDT server
