Cant't connect to Analysis Server from PerformancePoint Services Dashboard Designer: SocketException: The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found RRS feed

  • Question

  • Problem:

Everytime I try to create a data connection in the Performance Point Services dashboard designer, following message is shown in the event log:

The Unattended Service Account "MYDOMAIN\sharepointadmin" does not have access to the following data source server.

Data source location: http://SHAREPOINT/bicenter/Data Connections for PerformancePoint/11_.000
Data source name: Neue Datenquelle 11
    Server name: ANALYSISSERVER.MYDOMAIN.local

    Exception details:

    Architecture:

We have one SharePoint Server with a separate database server and a third Analysis Services server.

The web application uses Integrated Windows authentication with NTLM.

The Performance Point Services Service Application and the Secure Store are set up, like here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/performancepoint/archive/2009/11/24/deploying-performancepoint-2010-soup-to-nuts.aspx. The application pool's identity and the unattended service account have been set up as administrator in the Analysis Server.

In the dashboard designer (run as administrator) I choose "Unattended service account".

How can I connect to the Analysis Server from the Dashboard Designer?

  • Bing Translation shows that the message in German means: "It cannot be contacted. Make sure that the server is running". So, can you connect to the Analysis Service on SharePoint Server where PerformancePoint service is running with tools such as SQL Server Management Studio?
