I have tried to reload Vista (32 bit Home premium) my Dell 1720 Inspiron laptop. I have attempted a manual re-install from a formatted disk using the Dell OS CD that came with my laptop. It is freezing 3 quarters of the way through the “Completing Installation” step.
I have formatted the hard disk – because I originally believed it was a hard disk problem that was causing the OS reload to fail – however the installation gets stuck at exactly the same spot even with a new hard-disk. I have also used the memory checkr tool on the OS installation disk which didn’t detect any errors.
When I run the Startup Repair tool on the CD – I get the following error: Problem Event Name: StartupRepairV2 Problem Signature 01: External Media Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6000.16386 Problem Signature 03: 3 Problem Signature 04: 131074 Problem Signature 05: FailureDuringSetup Problem Signature 06: FailureDuringSetup Problem Signature 07: 0 Problem Signature 08: 0 Problem Signature 09: Unknown Problem Signature 10: 1168 OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033
