Sharepoint search services error (event id 2424) RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the event viewer I noticed the event id 2424, related to search services.

I found this kb http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927012 that
describe how to solve the issue.

I need to change in the SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration site, the user
account for SharePoint Services Search Service Settings because by default
there is the local account , not good for this (i'm asking why is there
    !?!?!).

So I'm thinking to set the : WSS_WPG user but I have a little problem....:
which is the password for that user ??

    Thank you

  • Why would you want to use this account instead of configuring a service account as described in the KB?

  • Because I was thinking that could be faster than configure another
    account...
    :-)

  • Yeah, but two problems. You don't have the password. If you manually set one you'll likley break something else.

Second, do you know if that account has the access and priviledges that the KB calls for?

I suggest if your going to follow the KB, you follow all of it, not just what seems easiest (or fastest).

  • WSS_WPG is a group instead of a user, so you cannot set it as the search service identiy. please create a new user.

  • Was the event id 2424 triggered by the recent Windows/Sharepoint updates? Just curious.

I noticed that Event ID 2424 began around the time I installed the following WSS/MOSS security patches which came out prior to the SharePoint SP1 patch:
