Software install GPO not working (MSI file)

  • Hello,

I've never tried this before, but I need to install an msi file at logon (or logoff) -

The msi file is from Citrix and to install you have to make sure Citrix isn't running, so I thought I might try as a User logon software deployment (Published), but it doesn't install and there is very little on the laptops local event logs to say why.

In the GP results on the laptop it shows an alert "AD / SYSVOL version Mismatch" but lower down it says the GPO is being applied.

I'm desperate to get this to work, any help would be great.  I'm not sure what extra logging I can do so I can provide you more detail.

  • Hi,
Regarding error “AD / SYSVOL version Mismatch”, please take a look at the following KB to see if it helps:
Unexpected "AD/SYSVOL version mismatch" message in Group Policy Results in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2
"AD / SYSVOL version mismatch" message is displayed unexpectedly in the Group Policy Results report in Windows
And have you checked if the deployed file is listed in the programs session of control panel which need to be installed manually?
Please confirm that the users have the proper permission to install the file. And also try to disable the UAC to test.
In addition, as the .msi file is from the third party, I would suggest that you could also involve the Citrix to see if the file is supported to deploy via group policy.
Here is an article regarding to troubleshoot Group Policy software installation, you could use for reference:
