Can't change expired password RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a weird problem: I can't change an expired user password on the local machine. I was asked to change it, but two text fields for entering the new password were missing. If I log to a terminal session (on another computer), the text fields are shown and I can change it. So it might be a problem with the local computer (registry?), and not with the domain or the user account.

How can this problem be solved?

  • Hy,

Is this pc member of Domain?

If yes, go to Active directory - find the user and reset password.

If not, please try this: Disable Windows Password.

Once you've managed to log into windows, you can then "turn off windows password expiration" easily, by following these steps:

    - Open the Local Users and Groups administration panel by typing in "lusrmgr.msc" into the start menu search box.

select "users" in the left hand pane and then double click your user account in the list.

    - On this screen you'll find the "password never expires" checkbox.

    - Just make sure the box is checked and you won't be forced to change your password.
