GPO To Disable Access to the Update & Security UI in Windows 10?

    Question

  • How can we disable access to Update and Security without blocking access to all Settings?

We are switching over from WSUS to SCCM  for Windows Updates and we don't want users confused and trying to check for Windows updates by using the Update and Security UI since it won't work.

    >>>As far as I know, we cannot disable user access the Update&Security in Settings, unless removing settings from start manu.

In addition, Windows 10 is forcing the user to check and install updates, is by design. Even if there are some group policies are related to Windows Update, such asRemove links and access to Windows Update, Disable access to Windows Update or Configure Automatic Update.

  • This seems like a bad design if the system only has access to updates via SCCM.

Isn't it true that, if the system configured to get updates from a SCCM SUP and the option to access updates from Microsoft online is disabled, clicking on the Check For Updates button does nothing and the user will not see the updates download or install from that interface?

These users must access updates from Software Center instead.  So, it makes no sense to not be able to disable the check for updates button because it will cause confusion to have the button enabled when it doesn't really work.

Users will click on it and wonder why nothing is happening.

  • Why not gray out the check for updates button if it isn't connected to anything?
