Creating a development environment for SharePoint work

    Question

  • Hello,

We have a 365 SharePoint environment (Instance) and up untill now, we were basically developing within the SharePoint sites themselves. This can make it difficult to stage, rev, rollout, ect...

We are looking for a better way to this and to that end, i was hoping to get some best practices suggestions.

Any suggestions on how i can better do traditional development work without doing that work within the SharePoint site being continuously developed.

    Thank you,

    Mike

  • in Sharepoint Online you may create separate site collection which will be your dev/test environment. Develop changes there first, test and if everything is Ok install them on production. Of course test and production site collections should be close to each other, i.e. have the same customizations installed, same structure, etc.
