the first URL that SharePoint was setup with will work while the new SharePoint URL will not . iframe and backend access denied with the new url

    Question

  • Not sure how to word this to make sense.

our big boss doesn't want to the url to  http://a.aspx (example url)... this one works it is the original url.

but now the big boss wants everything to be http://b.aspx   as he wants to type in b in browsers and it will auto take him to the home page. the server team handled this, do I need to configure something on the SharePoint side to fix this issue??

ok fine, we have this, but the issue is, everything works under the  first url  http://a I can get to site setting and everything perfect, iframes work everything is perfect, everyone happy... people sing happy happy joy joy and dance ...

but when we try to use http://b  things work except for iframes and trying to access site setting items like search  etc.. search results wont use the images used in promoted results it will render results, but it is not working the same as http://a

people throw rotten tomatoes at SharePoint guy and laptops...   :-(

Is there a possible sharePoint back end solutions or is this something to do with IIS or ???

confused why the iframes, images for promoted results and backend have access when using the http://b URL.

  • Hi cowboy2066,

Do you mean you remove the .aspx extention for the SharePoint pages, everything works well in http://a but not in http://b?

Please compare the URL between http://a and http://b when you encounter these issue. Check if there are some differences.

Please share the screenshots about this issue when you try to access site setting items .

Besides, check if there is any error message in ULS log. ULS log locates at

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS

    Best regards,

Here are the images comparing the first url http://a which is the original url of SharePoint, it will show this url for search results all the time. and iframes work ...

Here is the 2nd new url that the server team did on IIS (Big Boss requested this URL) iframes and search results do not show this URL after searching. it shows the iframe error message and results have the original URL.

  • Hi cowboy2066,

Do you use another browser to check if the issue exists?

Try to add the problematic SharePoint site to trusted sites in IE.

Besides, here is a similar post for your reference:

  • It sounds like you currently have SharePoint working on http://something.local or http://something and want to change it to http://somethingelse.local or http://somethingelse.

In which case you would create an alternate access mapping (AAM) that teaches SharePoint that it should respond to either of those addresses. You can then tell your Active Directory or networking team to add an A Host record to your DNS to allow all your company computers to direct traffic to the servers that host SharePoint when they type in http://somethingelse

    Alternate Access mappings: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263208.aspx
