DPM 2010 and AD LDS - .dit and .log files missing RRS feed

  • Question

  • we have DPM 2010 and AD LDS both on Server 2008 R2.

When saving AD LDS instance directory via DPM 2010, the adamntds.dit and the edbxxx.log files are not included in DPM backup.

What is going wrong? Can we backup AD LDS with DPM at all?

  • Hi Imueller,

Are DPM and AD installed on same machine?

If not, backing system state or BMR of the AD Server is the right way to protect AD.

    Thanks,

No, DPM and AD LDS are different machines. And it is AD LDS (formerly ADAM in 2003), not full AD Domain Services.

We would like to protect the AD LDS data separately from the whole server. Restoring whole System State or BMR is not an option, if we only want to restore some LDAP entries in AD LDS (the AD LDS machine hat a whole bunch of applications running and AD LDS is only one backend of one Web Application, it is only an application LDAP, not a domain).

With Server 2003 (ADAM), we could use ntbackup to protect the ADAM database.

Is DPM capable of protecting AD LDS data at all?

The Volume Shadow Service on the machine has a Writer for the AD LDS instance configured, but it is not called for the .dit and the transaction log.
