Windows 7 Slow Logon Issue for Laptops & Desktops. Please Help RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Please can you help me diagnose a login issue we have on laptops and desktops on our estate (Citrix users are fine). The issue is that it can take anything up to 15 minutes for users to log in after they have entered their credentials. It is extremely random in that sometimes it can take 30 seconds or other times 15 minutes. The laptops / desktops are running Windows 7 SP1 and users log into a domain.

I believed the issue was down to Group policy application but on a test laptop I have dropped the number of policies down to an absolute minimum and the issue is no different. I have applied the hotfixes on this page in an attempt to resolve the issue:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2775511/en-us

This has not made any difference.

I have enabled Group Policy monitoring in the registry (GPSVC) and dumped out a log file from a laptop experiencing slow logon. I have uploaded the file to the following location:

I have tried to analyise this using Policy Reporter 4 tool but do not really understand the results. Could someone please answer the following questions:

Looking at my log file can you see the cause of the slow logon?? Is this GP application?

Are there any other hot fixes I should be applying?

Does SP2 address this issue at all?

Are there any other tools I can use to look at this issue?

Your help is very much appreciated.
