using BCS to show information that is stored in directory services across the enterprise especially non-Microsoft identity solution with sql server database

    Question

  • how can I Use BCS  in order to provides a reliable way to synchronize  user profile information that is stored in the SharePoint Server 2013 profile database together with information that is stored in directory services across the enterprise especially non-Microsoft identity solution for example we stored human resource information in another app which is not based on sharepoint and has .net platform with sql server database Is it possible to read information of each user from database and show them in user profile  if it is possible to do that with BCS  how can we do it ? Do we need to developing and programming or just by implementing BCS we achieve to our goal? and how can we show them in first page of user profile ? do we need to put list view web part ? Is it possible to add  webpart to profile page ?

  • Hi maria1368,

We can import data from a business system, such as a personnel system or a financial system, and use that data to add properties to existing user profiles.

Firstly, we should create an external content type that brings the information from the external system into SharePoint Server 2013. For more information about how to create an external content type to synchronize with a business system, see Plan profile synchronization for SharePoint Server 2013.

Then, give the User Profile service application permission to use the external content type. Create a synchronization connection for each external content type.

Before importing the data, we may need to edit user properties, specify how the business system data maps to the user profile properties.

For more information about how to import user data from business systems using Business Data Connectivity service application and user profile service application, see Configure connections and import data from business systems.

    Best Regards,

    Linda Zhang
