intermittent mouse problem RRS feed

  • i have for some time had problems with several usb mice either freezing for a period of time or stopping altogether.  the mouse will not move the cursor but will still click on stuff and still scroll.  i try different usb ports and mice but sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't.
    my pc was under guarantee up until this month and i had a new motherboard fitted because of this problem but the problem came back after a couple of weeks.
    i've done scans in safe mode but nothing shows.

    Before moving on, could you please let me know whether the issue re-occurs in Safe Mode?


    Normally, the issue is caused by software conflict. We can try to take a clean boot to troubleshoot this problem.


    Clean Boot


    1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility.

    2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).

    3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".

    4. Restart the computer and test the issue.


    Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK".


    Please monitor the system in the Clean Boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit.

    thank you for replying to me.

    i do still have the same problem when in safe mode and when i tried as you suggested as above, the problem was still there also.

    Mouse will use Microsoft default driver in Safe Mode, as the issue still persists in Safe Mode, the problem should not be a driver issue.


    Given the current situation, let’s confirm the following points:


    1.      Did you reinstall Windows Vista after replacing motherboard?

    2.      Do you have another power supply? If possible, could you please replace it to test the issue again?

  • i am still having the same problems as above and tried everything.  i'm even using a different tower with xp instead of vista and it's still happening....please help!!!!!!!
