Direct Access configuration RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get the following error when I try to apply the Direct Access settings from the wizard:

DirectAccess configuration settings stored in the GPOs cannot be backed up. Verify network connectivity to the domain controller.

I can ping and connect to the domain controller so I don't know what the issue might be... Firewall is off on the DA server. They are in different subnets, but the route is in place and the communication is OK.

  • DirectAccess typically needs/wants access to ALL of your domain controllers. Do you have the routes in place so that it can contact all of the DCs in your network?

Additionally, I don't think it is causing your current problem but you will absolutely not be able to get DA working with the Windows Firewall turned off. WFAS is what owns the IPsec tunnels, the core of DA's communications. Your Windows Firewall must be turned on both client and server side for DA to work.
