Remote App window stays minimized RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are trying out TS 2008 and using Remote App.  The application is launched and within the application we launch another application.  We then minimize this application and cannot restore it to make it visable.  This not the issue with the timeout disconnect problem as the the minimized application stays visable on the task bar.  The parent application that was originally lauched can be minimized and restored normally.  The only option is to righ-click on task bar, close the minimized application, and relauch it.  This problem essentialy makes TS 2008 unusable for our application.  Anyone have an idea?

  • If I understand correctly this is a nested session you have within Published Desktop?
    Is it a windows application?
Upfront I would suggest to update your RDP client to the latest version eg 6.1.
If that is a nested RDP session to upgrade the client on the server too.

  • Hi,

Can you take a screenshot and link to it so we can look?

  • Here are some screenshots

The first is the child window on top of the parent:

The second is the child window minimized.  Notice the mouse over the parent shows a small view of the window:

The third  is the child window minimized.  Notice the mouse over the child does not show a small view of the window:

Clicking on the child in the task bar, right-clicking restore, right-clicking maximize,  etc..  does not make the child window visable.  The only option is to right-click and close the app and then relaunch the child window.  The parent and child windows are 2 separate apps not windows spawned within the same app.

    Thanks for your help!

  • We have the exact same issue. We are running a remote application that opens a couple of other windows and when they are minimized they cannot be re-opened.

Has anyone discovered a fix for this yet?

  • Please retry this with Windows 2008R2 Server, and a RDP 7 client (can be found in Windows 7 / W2K8R2), and let us know if the issue is still there.

  • Ive got the same problem, did the RDP 7 client resolve it? I updated my XP client with rdp 7.0 to see if it is resolved. /Erik

  • The problem is that the window is being repositioned off the screen, not that it is minimized. Check to see if there is something in the registry for that application or an ini file that keeps track of the window position and see if you can override that value to make it visible again. You should try to standardize the screen resolution to make sure you don't connect to this application at a higher resolution and then try to connect to it again at a lower resolution if this application does keep track of those values.

  • I was able to start task manager, select the app, and then select Maximize.

This occurred with my Windows 2012 R2 RDS installation.
