MDT 2012 Update 1 Custom WIM Import RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Using MDT 2012 Update 1. Back in MDT 2010 I would capture my custom wim and then replace the default install.wim in sources folder of my Win 7 enterprise files on my DVD.. I would then import the source files in MDT 2010 and would be done with it. I couldnt import JUST the WIM I captured.......

Question: Since MDT 2012 Update 1 uses ImageX and NOT Setup is there a need for the full set of source files? Am I able to just import my captured WIM file??

  • No you are not forced to import source files in MDT 2012 Update 1

  • When you import OS, you have a few choices (image below).  You can import the full set of files from original media, import a custom WIM file, or import from a WDS server.

  • Yes. For MDT 2010 I had to choose full set of source files for windows 7.. Now with mdt 2012 update 1 all I need is my WIM file..

Im wondering if thats because of it using imagex rather than setup.exe?

  • Yes.  Note, however, that Vista will still use Setup first, and then default to ImageX.  You can see the logic for it in LTIApply.wsf (starting at Line 129).
