SCOM 2012 R2 UR 13 : Frequent alerts related to Dell Server (iSM) one-time alert Unit Monitor

    Question

  • Hi All,

    In the MS server state we see all of our SCOM servers are showing the status as warning related to Dell Server (iSM) one-time alert Unit Monitor. Please let me know if we have any solution on this issue.

    Can you please post some more details?

  • Hi Bijesh,

    thnaks for the details. Can you please open the Health Explor of one of the affected Management servers, then navigate to the  bottom unit monitor, which chnaged state and then in the right pane, when you click on the "State Change Events" select the last change. Please make a screenshot of the context.

    Why is the monitor targeted to the Management Servers?  Are there overrides configured for it?

    Regards,

  • Hi All,

    please let us know if there is any update on the above issue?

    We are not aware why the SCOM Management Servers are targeted for this MP, and there is no override for this alert.

    Kindly assist us on this.

  • Hi Bijesh,

    I would suggest checking the Management Pack in which the override (Trageting) is stored. My assumption currently is that someone has targeted the Management Servers by mistake. Can you check this?

    If the Management Pack is from Dell (MP with overrides) then we must check the guide, if it is a MP created by someone in your organisation, then most probably it is simply incoreect targeting. In this case you need to ensure the monitor is targeted properly accorinding to the vendor specifications.

    Hope this helps. Regards,

  • Hi,

    This MP is targeted to Management Server class by default as part of the Dell MP installation, Currently we will not be able to change the target. Our current MP version is 6.3.0.109... This Monitor targeting the Management Server is it by design? Do you have any update on this?

    Also now we have new MP for Dell Vesion V7.0, once we upgrade to v7.0 version are we able to change the target?

    Kindly help us on this.

  • Hi Bijesh,

    I've checked the monitor and found the following out:

    Dell Server (iSM) one-time alert Unit Monitor

    The monitor is targetd at Management Servers by default:

    Target Microsoft.SystemCenter.ManagementServer

    The purspose of the monitor is to "when a Dell server is discovered through iDRAC Service Module (iSM) for the very first time.".

    I think you should not change its target, but rather you should look into those status chnags and what exactly the "Failure" means.

    In this particular case "Failure" comes from the property bag, used within the VBS script:

    If(intDiscoveredCount > 0) then
    	strStatus = "Failure"
    Else
    	strStatus = "Success"
    End If

    the script check if the Discovery Count is greater then 0 (meaning that a iDRAC Service Module has been dioscvered) and reports failure if this is not the case.

    Hope I was abel to help you with the explainations.

    Regards,
