Is Thesaurus working within Fast Search 2010? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Salam,

As Synonyms are not working as expected when the search query contains multi terms, I am thinking to use Thesaurus to overcome this issue, but Is Fast Search 2010 consider the configured Thesaurus upon crawling or querying? and if Thesaurus is not working when using Fast, what are the potential options to expand search result based on configurable synonyms?

    Thanks

  • Hi Emad,

The SharePoint thesaurus have no impact when using FAST for SharePoint. All lingustic features which applies to FS4SP is listed on TechNet.

You have a couple of options. You can try out the webpart I made at spsearchparts.codeplex.com, which does synonym expansion on a per word basis and not on a per term basis. The webpart might work for you depending on what other features you need supported as not all possible query combinations have been implemented or testet.

Your other option is to add custom dictionaries  which is usually used for property extraction. But you can very well use this for synonyms as well. On your custom crawled property make sure to check off "include in index", and your output value is searchable as well as the original word. But there are some limitations with this approach. You will not get syntax highlighting the same way you would with a query time expanded synonym, and proximity searches would not work. If this is a viable option depends on your usage scenario.
