Skype for Business 2015 Persistent Chat - Ask the Expert rooms or SME setup RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI, just setup our skype for business 2015 (with june 2018 cu). we're using skype for business client 2016.

I'm trying to figure how one would set up an 'ask the expert' chat room where the other members cannot see the questions asked.   just the experts or subject matter experts.   make them managers?  add a 'topic or ego' feed?

example:  corp benifits.   everyone has posting membership to a 'benifits' chat room.  how do I block the other users from seeing the post/question?   how do give certain members or mangers that will be the only ones to see the post/question?

    Thanks

    Raul

  • Hi Raul,

Persistent chat room doesn't have the feature of viewing message by grouping different user roles, but you could add this idea and vote for it in Skype feedback by uservoice if you like. If PG adopts this idea, this feature will be added in future update.

If you want to make it right now, we would suggest you use Microsoft Teams which could create different channels to set permissions to share information.

    Kind regards,

    Calvin Liu

  • Thanks. not really an answer but I appreciate your input. since teams requires a cloud or azure presence, we're not going to migrate to teams, just for this reason.  so do you know of an 'on-premise' deployment of teams that doesn't require an external or cloud presence (even hybrid)?

  • Hi Raul,

Teams is built on Office 365 and leverages identities stored in Azure AD, it could not be deployed on premise.

Please feel free to post the query in Teams forum to get a better response if you are curious about it. :)
