CM Clients not reporting to Configuration Manager 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new to SCCM so bear with me for a min while I try to explain the technical aspect of the issues that I am having with it.

I am unable to get the client to report back that it has installed the CMSetup.exe. I can see the service running and the only issue my server is throwing back is that it is unable to connect to WMI everything else proceeds as normal (or at least that is what I believe). I have read on the forums that this can be overlooked (the WMI). I am getting the error that it failed to getDPlocations with error 0x80004005 and from there on it is throwing errors for the rest of the log. It seems that I have some configuring to do in IIS because the line above it "HTTP://<svrname>/ccm_system/request" is where it request the DP correct? How can I check if this is running properly. They only thing added to my IIS was 2 applications for SMS so is this a flie under these apps? If so does anyone have the files that are supposed to be there so I can check and ensure that all files installed properly.. The reason I believe it is mainly an IIS issue is that it is with status code = 404 for web page unavailable maybe?

Here is where the errors start on the client log for ccmsetup.log.

  • So you can mark this as closed now. All the issues lied inside of IIS. I have no idea why but when I moved them over from the site we were using as the Trouble Ticket system SCCM didn't like it. I put them back into that site and configured a new binding to become the <servername> so that CCMSetup.exe could find it and it did. If anyone else has an explanation I would really like to know why it just doesn't install itself under the default site or come with a technical reference to tell you what applications to add to your own custom site. For example if you wanted to put it under the WSUS site so its all in one neat place, but what do I know I guess. Hope this helps someone else out that gets this issue in the future.

  • That basically tells you that ccmsetup was not able to find the binaries of the ConfigMgr client on a DP. Double check if it was distributed successfully (Monitoring node) and that your boundary/groups are set up right.

  • My boundaries are set automatically with the forest discovery. Here is the exert from the push of ccmsetup to just one machine on the network. I set this up in a test environment first and did not have any of these issues. It worked flawlessly now that I am trying to implement it real world it seems that it is just out to get me.

  • So my hunch about IIS was correct. For some reason it had put half of the applications under another internal site that we use for our trouble ticket system rather than under the default site that it was supposed to install to. However, after moving those applications that it creates matching casing and name as well as file location I am now getting a new error inside ISS for status code = 500. I think this is permissions I believe but I could be wrong.

  • Alright it was permissions. But back to square 1 and now that the applications have all been created under the correct site I don't know where to go from here.

  • So the install is good on the client machine I have all the log files and I am not getting that error for WMI anymore either. It is still not reporting to the server though. I was talking to one of the devs and it seems this line in the log is where most of my problems are coming from. I checked IIS and there isn't any request file or folder under the CCM_SYSTEM directory. Thus the Status code = 404. If anyone has what is supposed to be in there this would be very helpful.

  • My boundaries are set automatically with the forest discovery.

Have you added them to a boundary group, too? Boundaries that are not added to a group are non-functional.

  • Yes they were added to a Group Boundary after they were created.
