    ANY HELP HERE, THANKS.......

    2008R2 server run command prompt as administrator

    run diskshadow - list providers = Microsoft Diskshadow version 1.0

    add volume c:  = no errors

    create  = errors

    the last operation failed.

    return HRESULT: 8004230f

    error test:  VSS_E_UNEXPECTED_PROVIDER_ERROR

  • I opened up a MS Support call on this one.  Support added the Backup feature to the server and "Stoped & Restarted Cryptographic Service".  I didn't understand that one but he said it forces the "Writers" to reregester themselfs?  anyway, have had no more errors and did not have to reload the OS.  problem solved!

    To troubleshoot this issue, you may perform the following suggestions:

     

    l  Open Event Viewer and check for events related to Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) that mention hardware providers.

    l  Make sure that VSS hardware providers are operating properly.
