  • John,

Congratulations on your recent EAS. The link below contains information regarding sharing folders in Windows Server 2008. Some key points to consider when creating shares are permissions and quotas. There are two sets of permissions to manage, NTFS at the file level, and Share permissions. Neither takes precidence over the other when there is no conflict, but if a user is granted access in one and not the other, the more restrictive permissions will apply, whether they are NTFS or share. With that in mind, a lot of people grant "Everyone" full control of the shared folder at the file level and manage the share permissions granularly so that they don't have as much administrative overhead. Quotas are essentially limits on how much drive space any one user/group can take up in a shared folder and really ony become a consideration when drive space is a consideration. That being said, best of luck in your ventures and if you are elligible, take full advantage of the educational benefits offered by the VA.
