Switch audio to headphones when they're plugged in

    Question

  • How can I make Windows 10 consistently switch to headphones when they're plugged in, instead of outputting to the speaker, on all computer models?

  • I shall suggest you to uninstall, reinstall and update your sound card driver and recheck the issue.

If it still continues then create another user account and test the same.

  • That doesn't always work.  It seems like you have to plug headphones in, then set the default playback device to the headphones.  But you can't do it when headphones aren't plugged in, so how do you deploy it?  Osx doesn't have this problem.

  • Actually I was using nircmd to set the default sound device.  That seems to mess up the headphone behavior on certain models.  Otherwise on some macs with bootcamp, the default playback sound device is intel display audio.
