hub transport and mailbox server question RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've inherited an unusual set up. the previous email admin installed

    1 Hub Transport,Client Access server

    2 Hub Transport, Mailbox servers

This is causing me all kinds of head aches as I only want email going out through the HT,CAS server.

My quesion is this, can I uninstall the HT from the Mailbox servers without causing any problems? Will email start going through the HT, CAS server after I do this?

    Thanks

  • You would use that command if you didnt want to uninstall your HT roles on your MB servers but wanted your MB servers to use the other HT servers to route mail. If you want to just uninstall you don't need to run the command at all, just uninstall.

  • You can do

    Set-MailboxServer -Id: mbxserverA-SubmissionServerOverrideList: htserverB,htserverC

or just uninstall the HT roles on the MB servers. There is no issue or impact of uninstalling. Will email start going through the other HT after? You want to make sure you rehome all your connectors before you uninstall though I imagine when you uninstall it may error out notifying you.

Will I use that command on the HT servers that I want to uninstall? sounds like an obvious question but I want to make sure.

    thanks
