How to monitor DTC, COM, COM+, and RPC for Windows Server 2003? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I noticed that there is an Application Server MP which helps monitor COM, COM+, DTC, and RPC services running on Windows Server 2008, but there is no such MP for earlier versions of Windows Server.  Does that mean if I want to monitor these services, I pretty much have to author my own MP from scratch?  If so, could someone please advise me on where to begin or offer some tips for the process?  It would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks a lot!

PS: I know there is a DTC management pack that is meant for Windows Server 2003, but I'm having difficulty in getting it to recognize DTC on my machine.  Has anyone ever used this MP with success?

  • Hi Anders,

Thanks for the response.  I'm sorry for not being specific, but I'm looking for a free MP (such as one from Microsoft's download section).  It's just surprising to me that anyone who wants to monitor these seemingly essential components of distributed applications need to either author their own MP, purchase a third-party MP, or upgrade to Windows Server 2008.
    Thanks again!
