Impact of setting site collections to read-only and applying updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are getting ready to migrate to a new 2010 farm (different URL) using a migration tool.  This migration will be a phased cutover.  After a site collection has successfully migrated from 2007 to 2010 we are going to mark the old site collection as read-only in case something got missed or didn't migrate properly.

If an update needs to be applied to the 2007 farm during the migration period are there any impacts, or will I have to change the site collections back before running the psconfig wizard as part of the update process?

  • Hi Jeremy,

You would have to change the databases back to Read/Write if you set the database to Read Only. I would change the Site Collection back to read/write in case the schema update/upgrade modifies an attribute an object is using.

However, I have never applied updates to a database or site collection that was locked due to the risk associated with doing so...
