Mapping Network Drive in Windows 10 - Attempting to Access Shared Folder on Windows - 2016 Virtual Machine Via IP Address RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed windows 10 using Parallels on a Mac. I am using a bridged network connection to WiFi so the windows desktop connects to the internet as if it is a standalone machine. I have been able to map a network drive in a native windows environment to the shared folder in the windows virtual machine installed on the cloud server, so I know this can be done, but I am unable to connect in from windows 10 using Parallels on my Mac.

I am receiving the error message "Windows cannot access" with the code 0x80070043. I can ping the IP address so I am not sure why it will not connect. When I diagnose the error I receive the message "The file / print resource is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. The remote computer isn’t responding to connections on port 445, possibly due to firewall or security policy settings."

I am unsure if this is related to the settings within either windows 10 installed in parallels, or the windows instance installed as a virtual machine on the server. Or if this could be related to the firewall / security settings of either windows 10 installed in parallels, or the windows instance installed as a virtual machine on the server.

I have already enabled the firewall rules on both windows instances related to file / printer sharing. Both are private networks.

Any help that could be provided that would allow me to access the shared folder would be much appreciated.

    Thank you
