Question

Hi there,
I have a windows server 2008 R2 DC on my university network and have joined computers to the Domain. The problem is that all Windows XP clients have slow log on processes (it takes more than 5 minutes to log on after entering username and passwords.) while all win 7 clients have no problems and log on process happens in seconds.Do you have any idea what could be the potential cause of this issue?please help me out.
Thanks alot,
M.amini

Hello,
This can be caused due to:
- wrong IP settings (used DNS servers)
- group policy appliance
For IP configuration, make sure that your client computers are pointing to the correct internal DNS server as primary DNS server.
For group policy appliance, check logs in event viewer for more information. Use rsop.msc to check applied group policy settings.

Hello,
make sure that fast logon optimization is disabled and also that ONLY the domain DNS server is used on the machines NIC. Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC/DNS server and a problem machine.
