Box models

    Question

  • Chrome and Firefox have the ability to see the box model highlighted on hover when you inspect the element. Is this possible in ie 10/11? It makes identifying problem elements infinitely easier, which is needed because, ya know, css3 compatibility (thanks microsoft).

  • Hi,

MSIE dev tools shows only the inline and css style rules that apply (casscade) to the selected element. They do not show the userAgent style rules like webkit's dev tools do.

A common design pattern is to use a css reset stylesheet so that all web browsers use the same base (useragent) style rules.

    eg.

body{box-sizing:border-box; margin:0}/* children inherit from their parents or the userAgent /*

The Layout tab of dev tools shows you the computed client metrics of the selected element, which is an indicator of which box-sizing model has been applied.

    Regards.
